A Gender-Inclusive Analysis of Applying Storytelling, Analogy, and Metaphor to Promote Empathy among Science Graduate Students

  • Accepted by the 12th International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities (ICSSH 2024)
  • Examined the impact of using storytelling, analogy, and metaphor in a design thinking course to develop soft skills like empathy among male and female science graduate students.
  • Utilized Natural Language Processing (NLP) for sentiment analysis of student assignments with a Naive Bayes Classifier, which was trained using a large corpus divided into positive and negative sentiments, with IDF pre-processing to enhance feature set training.
  • Extracted texts from student assignments using various techniques, including speech-to-text for videos and document parsing for written reports, and conducted sentiment analysis on them to calculate cumulative sentiment scores, providing insights into the emotional tone.
  • Conducted Gender-related analysis to compare sentiment scores between male and female students, with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and Mann-Whitney U-test.

  • Researched the information quality, which is an important standard to measure the uncertainty of a probability distribution in information fusion.
  • Proposed a generalized quality information to obtain reasonable basic probability assignments (BPAs) of high quality. Solve the problem that the classical Dempster’s combination rule will get the counter-intuitive result when the given basic probability assignments (BPAs) are highly conflicted.
  • Proposed a data fusion optimization method based on the generalized information quality and genetic algorithm, obtained the fusion with maximum generalized information quality within a reasonable range.
  • Used a few numerical examples and the real data set of UCI to analyze the classification results. Handled the basic probability assignments (BPAs) fusion problem of highly conflict sources effectively.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program for Undergraduates

  • Researched the complex evidence theory and divergence measure in classical Dempster-Shafer evidence theory.
  • Proposed a generalized divergence measure called complex belief divergence (CBD), which has the properties of symmetry, nonnegativity, and nondegeneracy. The CBD will degenerate into classical belief divergence, which has a better ability to measure the uncertainty of information.
  • Designed a pattern recognition algorithm based on CBD and applied it to the iris data set from UCI and a medical diagnosis problem, which proves its practical prospect.

  • Formed a team of three and finished a paper based on the requirements of a digital currency based on blockchain
  • Constructed a primitive digital currency, Peace & Love (P & L), replacing the gold standard-like mechanism dominated by super-sovereign currencies.
  • Used Metcalfe's law to determine countries' willingness to work with this new financial market.
  • Used Markov chains to identify key factors that limit or promote profit-and-loss growth according to the three points of the impossible triangle: access, stability, and security at the individual, national, and global levels.
  • Established a digital currency financial system operation and supervision mechanism to ensure national information transfer. Each client and each country is connected to others via the Star Network and Mesh Network, respectively, and the links between the national servers take the form of distributed bookkeeping.
